I am a huge fan of DIY details but you really have to be careful and make sure you are not over purchasing ” stuff” just because you think you like it. I say sketch it out, take other images that you like and when purchasing use those as guidelines. Also for DIY execution is KEY . You can have the greatest idea but if you just throw it together it might not work. Think of it like cooking, you have ingredients but you still have to follow a recipe even if it is just a simple dish of your own. I also am a huge fan on the fact that if you see something you like , let it inspire you do not recreate it exactly, allow your personality to shine through as you put it together- that is what will make it your own and really stand out.
